Adaptive Accommodations for Students With Disabilities

Visual Impairment:

Pair up with a classmate that is assigned the same job. This "team" can do the research together. If the student is able, he or she can use the information to draw the story book. If not, the student can create a story orally and recite to the class during the class discussion and/or sharing time. The student can still bring in objects for the Tombstone Bags and describe what the objects mean to them and why.

Auditory Impairment:

Proceed with the project as usual, but with the discussion portion of the lesson, allow the student to read other student written responses. Also, if the student is uncomfortable with speaking, allow them to write their responses ahead of time and have the instructor read them if the student desires.

Physical Impairment:

Allow the student to create an oral story and bring in objects for the bag. They may print out images to paste in a story book as well as bring in photographs for the tombstone bag.
