Activity

Welcome to the Activity Page!

Along with your journal, you will also be creating a Tombstone Bag that you will be taking with you to the AFTERLIFE. Ancient Egyptians believe that when you died, you would place your most valuable possessions with you in your tombstone inside of the Great Pyramids. Take a second to close your eyes and ask yourself the following questions: What would I bring to the afterlife with me if I was an Ancient Egyptian? What objects in my life are the most valuable to me? What artifacts from home define who I am? How can objects and possessions illustrate an individual's culture? Hopefully some images popped into your mind after doing that exercise. Remember, you can bring anything that can fit inside your brown paper bag that is valuable and has meaning to you. After everyone is finished, we will all share with each other our journals, our bags, and talk about our valuable objects!

Materials Needed:

Brown Paper Bag (Minimum Size: Lunch Bag, Maximum: Grocery Bag)

Markers

Colored Pencils

Pens, Sharpies

Pencils & Erasers

Journal & Job Description Notes for Reference

Objects from Home/Personal Life

Getting Started:

If you have your objects already, lay them out in front of you for inspiration. If you do not, just write down the first few things that came to your mind of objects that you would like inside your Tombstone Bag. Lay the brown paper bag flat onto your working space, gather your coloring and creative utensils, and start drawing and illustrating your bag.

What Should I Be Drawing?

If you are unsure what to draw or create, think about drawing representational images that give a hint as to what is inside your Tombstone Bag. Second, also think about illustrating your job, life and experience as an Ancient Egyptian. Keep in mind that if you are a part of the social class that did not know how to read or write, you cannot use text!
